Tsuguharu Foujita was a Japanese-French painter and printmaker known for his distinctive blend of traditional Japanese and Western artistic influences. Foujita became a prominent figure in the artistic scenes of both Paris and Tokyo during the early to mid-20th century.

Foujita moved to Paris, where he quickly became associated with the Montparnasse artistic community. He gained recognition for his unique style that blended elements of Japanese art with influences from Western Modernism, particularly in the rendering of cats, women, and religious themes. Foujita was known for his use of milky-white tones in his paintings, a technique that became one of his signature styles. He often painted with a mixture of watercolor and gouache on paper or canvas.
