Henri Maik was born in Pari in 1922 . Maik designates himself as a Primitive painter, not a naïf painter. In many ways, the paintings of Henri Maik are paradoxical, at once familiar and strange, childlike and sophisticated, quiet and vocal with color.

His paintings intentionally lack three-dimensional depth. They rely instead on complex layers of dense foliage, exotic trees, kaleidoscopic skies, and flowers to construct their space.
