François Bonvin, original lithographic poster from 1959, with antique gold frame
Original lithographic poster with art by François Bonvin fro exhibition at Galerie Daber in 1959. The exhibition consisted of a collection og still-life paintings by French artists. Printed by Mourlot.
François Bonvin was a French painter associated with the Realist movement in the mid-nineteenth century. Born in Paris in 1817, largely self-taught, he developed a style devoted to quiet observation and the dignity of everyday life.
Bonvin is best known for his intimate still lifes and modest interior scenes, painted with restrained color and careful attention to light. Influenced by Dutch seventeenth-century masters as well as by contemporary Realists such as Gustave Courbet, he favored humble subjects: simple kitchen utensils, earthenware, books, and sparsely furnished rooms. His muted palette and subtle handling of shadow create a contemplative, almost austere atmosphere.
Unlike more dramatic Realists, Bonvin’s work is marked by quiet sobriety and technical precision. He avoided grand historical or mythological themes, focusing instead on the poetry of ordinary objects.
The piece is framed with a very patinated antique gold frame and is placed on a light background.
