Original lithographic poster made in relation to an exhibition at Bibliothèque Littéraire Jacques Doucet in Paris in 1963. A remarkable collaboration between Georges Braque, the renowned French painter and co-founder of Cubism, and René Char, one of France’s most celebrated 20th-century poets. Printed on thick arches paper.

The centerpiece of this exhibition was their work on Lettera Amorosa (1953), a bibliophile edition that combined Char’s poetic text with Braque’s lithographs. This kind of project—where a major visual artist illustrates the work of a major poet—is known in France as a livre d’artiste, or "artist’s book." These books are not ordinary publications but rather fine art objects in themselves.

Georges Braque contributed 29 original color lithographs, which offered a visual counterpart that echoed the mood and abstraction of Char’s poems. René Char had a long history of collaborating with artists, including Joan Miró and Alberto Giacometti.

The piece is frame with a hand silvered frame and is placed on a sand-colored background.
