Jean Piaubert was a French painter associated with postwar abstraction, best known for his richly textured, luminous compositions that evoke natural and cosmic landscapes. Born in Paris, Piaubert initially worked in a more figurative style before turning toward abstraction in the 1940s. His work is sometimes described as “abstraction lyrique” (lyrical abstraction), though it also connects to the broader movement of Art Informel, which emphasized spontaneity and materiality after World War II.
