Original lithographic poster with art by Hans Hartung for exhibition in Toulouse in 1970.

Hans Hartung was a German-born French painter best known for his pioneering role in lyrical abstraction; a form of abstract art that emphasizes spontaneous gesture and emotion rather than geometric precision. His paintings are known for their dynamic energy with sweeping gestures, scratches, and bursts of light that seem to capture movement itself.

Having fled Nazi Germany in the 1930s, Hartung settled in France, where he joined the Foreign Legion during the war and was gravely wounded in combat. The tension between control and spontaneity that marks his art reflects both his disciplined spirit and his resilience.

The piece is framed with light passepartout and a deep vintage gold frame from the same decade as the poster itself.

H75 x W53 cm.
