La Danse is a large decorative mural painted by French modernist artist Henri Matisse for American collector Albert C. Barnes. It’s one of the most important late works of Matisse and a landmark of modern decorative painting.
Matisse designed the mural specifically to fit the curved architectural lunettes (arched wall spaces) above the windows. He created it while in his early 60s, during a period when he was increasingly focused on simplification, rhythm, and monumental decoration.
The original piece was made between the summer ‘32 to april ‘33 and measured 10 m long and 5 m tall.
Please note that the framed piece is slightly yellowed near the page dents in the book.
The piece is framed with a vintage hand made frame with small decorative patterns in different colors and with a gilded inner edge, with pink passepartout, and is placed on a gray background.
