Robert Savary, original lithographic poster from 1969, with hand painted frame
Original lithographic poster with art by Robert Savary from 1969.
Robert Savary was a French figurative artist and engraver known for his distinctive style. Savary's artwork often featured scenes of rural life, landscapes, and still lifes, rendered with a delicate touch and a keen eye for detail. Savary was also an accomplished illustrator, contributing to numerous books and publications throughout his career.
Eugène Dabit was a writer from a working-class background in Paris and together they made Faubourgs de Paris, a posthumously illustrated edition of Dabit’s text. In the 1960s, Robert Savary was invited to create a series of lithographs to accompany a new edition of Dabit’s Faubourgs de Paris. Savary’s images infused Dabit’s realist, socially conscious text with vivid colors and painterly energy, bringing the Parisian suburbs to life in a way that bridged literature and visual art.
The piece is framed with a hand painted and patinated frame with leaf detailing.
