Original lithographic poster with art by Serge Poliakoff for exhibition at Galerie Dina Vierny in Paris 1970. Printed by Mourlot.

Serge Poliakoff was a Russian-born painter who became a seminal figure in postwar Parisian abstraction. Born in Moscow, Poliakoff fled the Russian Revolution and eventually settled in Paris in 1923. Initially trained in academic figurative painting, he gradually shifted toward abstraction in the late 1930.

By the 1940s, Poliakoff had found his own abstract style, building compositions from irregular, interlocking patches of color. He worked with pure pigments, without trying to create depth or realistic effects, letting the colors and shapes interact on their own. Early on, he leaned toward soft gray-brown tones, then moved into vibrant, jewel-like colors, before eventually returning to warmer, earthier shades later in his career. The piece is framed with a hand painted light blue frame, with warm gray passepartout, and placed on a blue-green background.

Please note that there is a vague spot around the ‘y’ which is accounted for in the price.
