“The face of peace”

Pablo Picasso became an important visual voice in the international peace movement after World War II. His simple line drawings like the dove holding an olive branch seen here were widely used in posters, prints, and political material.

The piece was published by the National Council of the Peace Movement (Conseil National du Mouvement de la Paix) in Paris. The text on the back of the card is advocating unity across political and social groups in the pursuit of peace. This was very typical of European peace campaigns during the Cold War period.

Pablo Picasso is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and is known for co-founding the Cubist movement. His works often dealt with themes such as love, death, war, and sexuality, and his art was heavily influenced by his personal life and relationships.

The piece is framed with an antique hand silvered frame, with light passepartout and a background in the same tone. UV glass.

H 22 × W 26 cm.
